What this tool does

Free website uptime checker: check if any site is up or down with HTTP status and response time

How uptime checking works and what the results mean

This uptime checker sends an HTTP HEAD request from our server to the URL you specify and reports the status code and response time. Because the request is made from our server rather than your browser, it is unaffected by your local network, ISP, or browser cache. It shows the real status of the site as seen from an external perspective. The response time measures the round-trip from our data centre to the target server.

A 200 OK response means the site is up and working normally. A 301 or 302 means it redirects (we follow redirects). A 403 Forbidden usually means the server is up but blocking our request. A 500 means the server has an error. A timeout or connection refused means the server is unreachable. For monitoring purposes, consider using a dedicated uptime monitoring service (UptimeRobot, Better Uptime, Freshping) for continuous checks.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about website uptime checking

How does the uptime checker work?
This tool sends an HTTP HEAD request from our server to the URL you enter. A HEAD request asks the server to respond with headers only (no body), making it fast and lightweight. If the server responds with a 2xx or 3xx status code, the site is considered up. If it returns a 4xx or 5xx error, or if the connection times out, the site is considered down. The response time shown is the round-trip time from our server to yours.
What does HTTP status code mean?
HTTP status codes are three-digit numbers that indicate the result of a request. 200 OK means the page loaded successfully. 301/302 means the URL redirects to another location. 403 Forbidden means the server refused the request (often due to authentication or IP blocking). 404 Not Found means the page doesn't exist. 500 Internal Server Error means the server crashed or has a bug. 503 Service Unavailable means the server is overloaded or in maintenance mode.
Why might my site show as down even though I can access it?
Several reasons: the site might be blocking requests from server IPs or data centre IP ranges (common for sites using Cloudflare's 'I'm Under Attack' mode). The site might only be accessible from certain regions. The URL might have an HTTPS redirect that our HEAD request didn't follow correctly. Or there might be intermittent issues that resolved by the time you checked from your browser. Try the check a second time. If it's consistently down, there's likely a real issue.
